Correct Torque for Scope Mounts

Lightweight Mounts:

  • 20 in/lb for the base, unless it has an aluminum receiver, then only 15 in/lb. Ring screws 17-20 in/lb.

Steel Bases:

  • For thicker receivers such as a Remington 700, Winchester 70, Weatherby, use 20-25 in/lb, thinner receivers use 15-20 in/lb.

Steel Ring torque:

  • Fixed Rings, bottom screw 35 in/lb top 17-25 in/lb.
  • Detachable Rings, small bottom screws 30 in/lb, large screw 35 in/lb, top screws 17-25 in/lb.

Stainless Steel torque:

  • Use 5in/lb less than Steel Ring torque as it is a softer material and will strip out if over-torqued.
